Review: Himalaya Wellness Ashvagandha

Ashvagandha is a great supplement to reduce stress and for the general stress. Find out how good is Himalaya Wellness Ashvagandha.

I have been a regular user of Organic India Ashwagandha since last two years. I decided to try Himalaya Wellness Ashvagandha. Himalaya is a well-known company for its herbal and Ayurvedic products.

Ashvagandha is a powerful anti-stress agent, which aids in coping with stress, reduces cortisol and keeps us relaxed. Hence, it is used as an adaptogen. As a result, it also helps in improving the sleep quality. In fact, it can be taken before bedtime to induce sleep. Its other benefits include:

  • Increase energy and stamina
  • Improve cognitive abilities
  • Boosts overall immunity and protects against cold and flu
  • Good source of anti-oxidants
  • It can boost testosterone and hence improve the muscle mass and fertility levels

Side effects are minimal. If taken it large doses, it can cause stomach upset and diarrhoea.

Major benefits experienced by me:

  • It keeps me calm and reduces stress.
  • Sleep is absolutely peaceful and relaxing. Even my occasional daytime sleep is calming. This is probably the most evident benefit of Ashvagandha

Himalaya recommends a tablet twice day. I have been taking two tablets a day – one after breakfast and another after dinner. Each tablet is brownish in color. It tastes bitter, which does not matter much since it is swallowed immediately. Each bottle has 60 tablets and each tablet has 250 mg of Ashvagandha.

Comparison of Himalaya and Organic India Ashwagandha (review post)

  • Himalaya Ashvagandha costs less than Organic India Ashwagandha. Each Himalaya tablet contains 250 mg and costs Rs.135 per bottle while Organic India tablet contains 400 mg and costs Rs.175 per bottle. Both bottles contain the same number of tablets – 60.
  • Organic India claims that their products are organic but Himalaya doesn’t
  • Organic India Ashwagandha has capsules (powder in a dissolvable container) while Himalaya has tablets (compressed powder)

Both Himalaya and Organic India Ashwagandha are good and I do not have a specific preference. Ashvagandha will continue to be my daily supplement considering its wide range of benefits and stress reducing properties.
